ABSTRACT
Books are used recoding of what is happening or event that has already taken place which can be storing information it is useful and for the information that such books contained not to cost it support to be properly kept and these can be done when those books are kept in a cool dry place and a place free from rodents and insects attacked Therefore, our contribution to proper storage of books is the design and construction of a metallic bookshelf that will be economically cheap and equally meet up its demands.

CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
A shelf is a flat board partitions made of wood, metal or even glass which can be fixed to the wall or forming part of a cupboard/closet for things to be placed on.
A bookshelf is that type of shelf kept in offices, libraries and even at homes for the storage and arrangement of books and files. It can be dismountable or undismountable. In this project, we are concerned on the undismountable metallic bookshelf due to some advantages considered before embarking on it such as long lasting when built with metals that have long life span.
This type of bookshelf was fabricated / constructed with mild steel sheet alone. There was no frame in it but still maintained its strength because the mail steel sheet was corrugated by folding its edges which brought about the toughness and increase in strength of the shelf to be able to carry the books stored in it. As well, the shelf contained three partitions with spaces where the books are kept.
The mass and the volume of the books to be contained by each partition were also considered before they were erected.
DESCRIPTION OF THE METAL BOOKSHELF
The bookshelf was made of the following parts and component viz
(i) The top
(ii) The sides
(iii) The back
(iv) The partitions
(v) The floor.
(i) THE TOP: This was made of mild steel of 1.0mm thickness which was folded to have been stiffened with 1244.6mm and breath 355.6mm are was welded to the sides and back at 900.
(ii) THE BACK: This was made of mild steel of 1.00mm thickness of height 1700mm and breath 1244.6mm which was welded to the sides, the top floor and the partitions at 900.
(iii) THE SIDES: This was made of mild steel sheet of 1.0mm thickness which was bended / corrugated using bending machine at angle of 900 and also welded to the back and partitions.
(iv) THE PARTITIONS: the partitions were designed from mild steel sheet of 1.0mm thickness was folded to have stiffened. Each having the length of 1244.6mm, breath of 355.6mm and height of 425mm which is the space between two partitions and was welded to the back and sides at 900
The volume of each partition was illustrated mathematically below
Volume = length x breath x height
= 1244.6 x 355.6 x 425
= 188, 096, 398mm3
The area of each partition illustrated mathematically below
Area = 2(l x b + b x h + l x h)
= 2(1244.6 x355.6 + 355.6 x 425 + 12446 x 425)
= 2(112266476)
= 2245329.52mm2
(v) THE FLOOR: This is one of the partitions that touch the floor where they were kept.
