ABSTRACT
The important of a computer–based library system cannot be overstressed in this knowledge–oriented age when the rate of research is increasing daily. In I.M.T library Enugu, with booking and lending section there is much pressure on the workers due to many users want to book or borrow books to get information. This research which deals mainly on the booking and lending in library, it will see the way it is manually done resulting to errors and slow response it will also see the way of reducing the pressure on the workers side by using a computer – base booking and lending system.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
The library is a growing organism, this is true for the fact that materials in the library grow with information explosion and awareness and client seeking them.
Library services over the years present a picture of remarkable variety and play an important role in the educational economic, cultural and recreational life of the people. In great Britain and America, evidence of library services towards rapid industrial and economic development abounds.
In Russia, the communist party and the soviet government whose hand the library became one of the most important and effective instruments in revising the cultural level, professional skill and communist awareness achieved the revelation change in 1919.
A library is a room or building containing books that can be looked at or borrowed by member of the public or by members of a group or organization that owns the library.
Circulation department is usually the first part of call for every reader. It is designed to provide such services as books, renewal of books keeping statistical records of materials on rent name of borrowers; number of readers over due books and inters –library rent.
The use of manual approach in problems solving has really left some loop holes in life and this has encouraged the introduction of computer in various fields of work including library in terms of booking and lending of materials.
IMT library Enugu is an academic library which allows students borrow books and make reference. Therefore the library has many landing and reference section but for the purpose of this research, it is based on booking and lending services..
The library assistant performs the job of booking and lending to readers. However, some kind of qualifying audience is usually necessary for privilege of lending of books, it may be a borrower’s card, a dursons receipts and a registration card.
Booking lending services has been in existence in many academic schools through in manual approach and in anticipation librarians has 24yrs age been studying different procedures of booking and lending of materials.
A number of systems has been developed each seems to reduce lost and saves the time of the staff and the users.
The introduction of computer system will greatly improve booking and lending services in the following aspect
The above factors are due to fact that the computer possesses some great factors and advantages or manual approach.
1.1 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
No doubt that the use of manual method has created a lot of problem in booking and lending of library materials at national library.
The number of students that requested for some books and the number of books on rent with the necessary information like the name, department, registration number cannot be traceable because of going disadvantages stated below.
The introduction of computer system will help eliminate these problems to an extent.
1.2 PURPOSE OF STUDY
This project is generally towards eradication of all the deformities and curbs hook ups of manual method of booking and lending library materials thus developing a Nero system to handle the jobs involved.
This is to help supply all the deficiency of the existing system. Consequently upon the elimination of the deficiencies and gratifying the anomalies encountered in the existing system over shadowing it operational incapacitation by developing a computer based solution of information on booking and lending through investigation. It is now overtly known that some of the glaring problems been face by the academy library are updating information to over come the pressure on the side of the staff to reduce if not overcome the time spent in searching right book needed by the user, and hoarding of material in library because of lack of documentation.
Considering the above problems and difficulties, the researcher considered it better to introduce computerizing form, which many be better than the manual if well designed and implemented . this is to enable the level of job enrichment and to produce increased administrative efficiency.
Application of computer in booking and lending services will make quick and easy collection, processing storage and retrieval of information.
