The aim of this project was to find out the role of Ijeudo (Enugu South) women cooperative society development of Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State. The subject matter use of the study consisted of four hundred and ninety nine women cooperative from six registered women cooperative in the same local government sample size was use din selecting these four hundred and ninety nine cooperative from the population of the six registered local government. Questionnaire and oral interview were the major instrument used for the study.
A total of 550 questionnaires were administered to registered numbers of cooperative societies, of this number’s 499 were completed and returned, one more questionnaire was administered to the divisional cooperative officers in Enugu South Local Government Area. He also stressed on the need for the cooperative officers in Enugu South Local Government Area encouraging the women to invest more on productive ventures there are more collection of individual loans from the cooperative. This will help provide employment opportunities for the members of the people of Enugu South in general.
In this chapter, it is going to cover the following background of the study, statement of the problem purpose of the study, significant of the study, objective of the study, scope and limitation and definition of term.
The idea to involve the rural people fully through their towns unions, age grades, cooperative societies and other similar organization in planning and implementing polices that are designed t o improve their economic social political and cultural development has become the main focus for both the government and well meaning individuals.
This emphasis is not unconnected with the ever widening urban rural income differences. The quality of life in the rural area, assess to public service and amenities opportunity for work and self improvement are all manifestly lacking in the rural area.
The prevailing economic depression in the country worsens the situation with it s attendent rise in the general price level and cost of living inflation, unemployment, low income, low productivities, low saving and low investment.
The above situations weigh heavily on the populace especially the lower state of rural masses whose deplorable socio – economic condition all for.
In this regard, therefore the role of our women folk in rural development through cooperative societies cannot be over emphasized especially as it concerns Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Given the fact that Nigeria is a developing country capitalism and the survival of the rural masses characterized by poverty, self subsistent living and illiteracy become glaringly elusive. The question then is low can cooperatives help the rural women in Enugu South Local Government Area to improve upon their economics social educational cultural and political status.
By consistently providing for cooperatives in to past development plan, the government has also identified the cooperative as a viable instrument for rural development with particular reference to Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.
