ABSTRACT
In the mechanical engineering department of institute of management and technology there are many machines but it is not all that is functioning well. This may airless as a result of lack of maintenance which is a prove in the breakdown of the air conditioner. The quality and effectiveness of materials were mated very well as referred to machine maintenance. The cost of maintenance was minimized jet reaching a highly victorious rehabilitation. In the course of rehabilitation and repair of a faulty air conditioner, suitable tools such as manifold gauge, refrigerant cost and quality of equipment were put into consideration.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 LITERATURE REVIEW
Air-conditioning is a process whereby heat received from a low temperature region is transferred to a higher temperature region and during this process a negative work is being down in the system. The four basic components of an air-conditioning system are:
Compressor, condense, metering device and evaporator. If any of these basic components get spoilt the air-conditioning system will not be efficient.
Actually, we were imported that our predecessors had worked on this faulty air-conditioner before and because of lack of technical know out they were unable to tackle the problem of the faulty air-conditioner no + until the past set of student worked on it and were able to salve the problem but after solving the problem, because of proper, detection, the air-conditioner efficiency now fall to its original state, it was then they a banded it.
The following faults were detected before the main repair work was carried out on the air-conditioning system.
1. The capacitors are bad, both the motor fan and that of the compress or capacitor are bad.
2. The dryer strainer; that during the section using soap solution we discovered that that was leakage in the dryer Strainer.
3. The whole system was dirty the is due to the fact that the air-conditioner has been dumped for a very long time
4. That there was no refrigerant in the compressor.
THE COMPRESSOR: It is often defied dittoing system. It pumps the refrigerant and also circulates or distributes refrigerants to all the parts of the entire system and a given quality needed for each unit.
Most of these essential components of the air-conditioner in this case, seem to be very delicate needs not to be rough handled or handled carelessly if there is any occurrence of fault and also, unskilled labourer (a non-expatriate) in the profession of air-conditioning and refrigeration should not handle it.
Our predecessors who handled this project succeed in the rehabilitation and repair work because they were able to replace those components that were bad and components with the right sizes to the faulty air-conditioner. But they were not able to check for leakage in the system before concluding their project work. It was after the defense the air-conditioner was working very well but eventually the air-condition was no longer efficient that is, it was no longer cooling again and this is as a result of improper check of faults before working on the air-conditioner.
THE DRYER STRAINER: The dry strainer which was having leakage during the check of fault in the entire system was brazed instead of replacing with a brand new one. As a result of this leakage cause the refrigerant not to pass or flow to the evaporator efficiently rather causing an escape of refrigerant through the point of leakage in the metering tube or dryer-strainer.
A repair and rehabilitated equipment suppose to be sound both internally and externally.
Broad speaking other condition that added or contributed intensely to the breakdown of the air-conditioner was as a result of poor maintenance.
Plant maintenance is the up keep of plant in safe working state. Plant maintenance is divided into the following; breakdown maintenance, preventive, maintenance, planned maintenance, corrective maintenance, running maintenance.
These were further subdivided. Therefore this report completely covers the series of job done in other to arrive at a meaningful remedy to the problem of break down.
Thus, in considering the space volume and relevance write up have to be reduced to the air conditioner.
First, and foremost, the basic procedure used in checking fault or leakage was followed which soap solution and it was properly done, the whole system was also flushed using a vacuum pump.
The entire which was dirty was also dusted and the plug which supplies electricity to the system was replaced. The sequence of operation and tools utilized during the rehabilitation period is recorded in ascending order over leaf.
