This study was carried out to find the patient’s awareness of the effect of ionizing radiation workers and non radiation workers. This study is a
prospective one, with the use of proper information from the respondents through questionnaire. The survey was carried out between Nov. 2009 trough January 2009.A total of 2002 questionnaire were distributed and 170 questionnaire were v returned recording 85percent response. From the 170 questionnaires returned eighty 98were male while ninety (90) were female. Out of which they were seventy woman of child bearing age from which we got our percent of possible pregnancy women of who are exposed ionizing radiation. It could be from the study that only two (2) out every ten (10) correspondent known anything about the effect of ionizing radiation, this adequate Knowledge of effects of radiation. From the study it was deduced that patients are not aware of the effect of undue exposure to ionizing radiation as such most of them get irradiated.
INTRODUCTION: This study was carried out to find out the patient awareness of radiation protection. The study is a prospective one, with use of proper information from the respondents through questionnaire. For the study it was deduced that patient are not aware of effects of under exposure to ionizing radiation
1.1 BACKGROUND OF STUDY
Since 1930’s ionizing radiation has been known to damage human health even at extremely low exposures 1 this is because the effects of ionizing radiation is cumulative therefore sage working condition demands that dose received should be as low as possible1 committee on the biological effects of ionizing radiation (1990)
This is because x- rays even those that are scattered off the patient or the x- ray equipment even in mall dose can cause permanent damage to the health of the patient or anyone else2
The effects of exposure to ionizing radiation are dividend into two major classes. Somatic effects (those effects experienced by the exposed individual directly) and genetic effects which are (those effects passed on the later generation) somatic effects are caused by high level of irradiation does relived by a patient in diagnostic radiography.
