It is crumatic fat that pattern of ownership of newspaper is causal in determining the strength or weakness of that newspaper. This study is meant to find out the extent of ownership influence in the sun newspaper coverage of government programmes and polices.
I content analytical the newspaper which is a private owned newspaper published by Sun publishing company for a period of four month from January to April 2006.
In the study, I tread to find the extent of ownership influence on the newspaper coverage of government polices and programmes. Objectivity of such coverage was also studied to determine what role of has to play in this study.
On the whole for hypothesis were tested with chi-square statistical procedure. Also sample percentage were used to explain a result further.
The result obtained in this study showed that the privately owned newspaper which as Sun newspaper were more objective in coverage of government polices and programmes more than government owned newspaper.
As past of my reacurraction is that government should allowed individuals town newspaper company to ensure more objectivity of coverage and dissemination of information to the public.
Journalism in Nigeria has really improved tremendously in react- times. The improvement can be witnessed through the view point of the developmental efforts in the presentation of issues and events. The background of which emanates from the technological improvement associated with production and dissemination of information.
It has developed from the era of poorly edited shallow- content – pages that can t\rightly be referred to air pamphlets and propaganda sheets to a more organized newspaper in today’s Nigeria.
Journalism is also reflecting the changing character of the Nigeria society in their organization. Through carepue selection and distribution of information ,journalism is creating a forum within which readers are able to come to term with their local, national and international environments.
