THE RELEVANCE OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHARE LAND SCHEME TO THE CITIZENS OF ENUGU STATE IN THE ONGOING PRIVATIZATION PROGRAMME (A CASE STUDY OF NEPA DISTRICT ENUGU)

ABSTRACT

The research work, the relevance of the government share loan scheme to the citizens of Enugu State in the enjoying privatization programme A case study of NEPA Enugu tends to solve the following problems.

To find out how federal government share loan scheme can induce mass participation in privatization.

To ascertain the role of government and private individuals to make the privatization a reality.

To find out what the privatization share purchase loan scheme is all about.

In the process of writing this project, by researcher used distribution of structured questionnaires to various respondents.  Also, the researcher made use et text books, magazines as method of data collection, verso Vamane’s fornular was used to determine the sample size.  After thoughtful investigation, the researcher discovered the following to be the findings.

Based on the data collected and analyzed, it was found that out of the whole number of 193 respondents, 100 persons who represent 52% of the sample size agree that there is need for privatization.  About 178 respondent said that they have not participated in any privatization programme this number represents 92% of the entire sample size.  It was also found that 133 respondent which represents 69% of the sample size agree that Enugu state can be improved through privatization.  Also 155 persons are of the opinion that problems will ensure after privation.  Yes, according to one of the respondents, he said he is afraid that the privatization programme which is supposed to be of benefit to all will be politicized thereby allowing selfish interest to conflict with the interest of the public.  And when this happens, the post privatization period will term to be a critical period for the poor critizens.  Because of this and many other fears, about 80% of the populace believe that there will come to be problems after privatization.

However, as to whether these problems can be solved, 135 persons said that they will not by solved and this number represent 70% of the sample.

Seven when the problem, ensure the people that is supposed to give attention to the solution is the government.  A number of 100 persons which represents 52% of the sample size / one of this opinion.  The respondents of about 193 representing 100% are et the opinion that government has a role to play towards a successful privatization programme.  86 persons representing 45% of the entire sample size said that government is not doing anything to ensure a successful programme.
